Oak Park scored a 20-14 upset win over favored Village Prep in week one, but after seeing how talented his team was in practice, sophomore running back/defensive back John Kelly was not surprised.
"We were confident because we have a lot of players and a lot of talent on our team. We knew we could compete with the best of them and we came out here and showed it."
In his first game on the big stage, Kelly had a big run that helped set up the go ahead touchdown.
"I felt I did good. I think I could do even better, but I thought it was good for my first high school game."
Already considered one of the state of Michigan's top young talents, Kelly had a big summer camp run and although his youth keeps him from hearing from too many schools, he will check out a prospective program soon.
"I should be at the Michigan State game. The opener. I'm not sure about any others right now."
That's because he has to focus on continuing the momentum his team has from week one.
"We're about to start a new tradtion. That's what we're trying to do: start a new tradition at Oak Park."
