Will Omaha North product Casey Sayles end up with a Nebraska offer?

LINCOLN, Neb. - Omaha North defensive end/tight end Casey Sayles wasn't out celebrating the Vikings state semi-final win from Friday night on Saturday. He was at the University of Nebraska, checking out the Huskers come from behind win over Penn State.

Sayles is a player that first really popped up on the Nebraska radar during the summer, when the senior performed very well at the Huskers camp.

He since has committed to Frank Solich and Ohio, but has not been afraid to voice his desire for a Nebraska offer. On Saturday, that offer was discussed among him and the coaches.

"They are close with an offer, but they are waiting a little bit, I think on Beau Sandland, but who really knows," said Sayles. "I think because Christian Lacouture decommitted, they could be interested in me a little as defensive end as well, but I'm not entirely sure.

"I don't really care what position I play."

The 6-foot-4, 260 pound prospect says he will be sending out his highlight film after the state championship game, so more teams could jump on in the future. Both Nebraska assistant Barney Cotton and Vince Marrow checked out his game on Friday night.

"I wouldn't really have to think about it, I would pull the trigger right away," said Sayles about possibly getting a Nebraska offer down the road.

"The last couple of times I have went, I did the whole tunnel walk thing. I didn't realize you could go to the locker room and see the guys come out on the field. We got to come out of the tunnel and it just erupted. It was just an amazing experience."

Sayles and Omaha North will take on Millard North in the Class A state final a week from tomorrow. The Mustangs are 12-0, including a win over Omaha North in the last regular season game of the year.

"No way I would have never imagined it would happen, especially with the people we play," said Sayles when asked if a state championship run was in his thoughts early in his career.

"We worked hard really this summer in strength and conditioning and I'm glad that we have got it done for the coaches."

Big Red Report will catch up with the senior after the state championship final in eight days.
